This is a paper batik of a Lurline plumeria, which is a tropical flower. These species specifically grows in Thailand. So, I started off with the outline of the flower which I did in Sharpie. After that I went in and painted with tempera, making sure not to cross the sharpie lines. The colors in the piece are the actual colors of the flower. After giving the painting roughly two to three coats, I covered it entirely with India Ink. After it dried I the ink off the top layer of paint and prayed the tempera wouldn't come off as well. After all that, I went back in and touched some stuff up.
wow i thought this was a pastel piece what a great effect! i really like the shading from the centre of the flower and on the stems really makes the piece visually interesting. and of course good use of complimentary colors yellow and purple!
