The Flower
Everyday I looked at that flower,
"Hello there"
I said to it every morning.
Followed then by a silent response
That I knew was
Hello to you too
"It looks like to be a wonderful day today"
or
"I feel a gloomy day ahead, but that's okay"
I would say, keeping the conversation going
(an awkward silence after a hello is never pleasant).
A shake of a leaf would tell me
Yes, but no matter the day, I will continue to bloom.
This was the conversation I had everyday
with the flower for a long while.
Until one day.
When I asked it another question.
"Why is it you smile everyday, flower?"
Someone has to be optimistic for the day
"Where do you find your strength, flower?"
From the gifts of the day, and the water which brought me up to see the sun.
"What do you do at night, flower?"
I look up to the moon and the stars, for I can see the sun within all of them.
"But what if the sun does not shine through the clouds, flower?"
That is alright. The sun is necessary for life, but I know it shines in the same place it always has, and I will wait till the clouds move so I can see it again.
"What if it does not rain, flower?"
That is alright. The rain is necessary for life, but I know the gardener will water me if the rains do not come.
"Surely a lonely flower such as you would not mean enough to the gardener to tend to you."
That is not true. The gardener takes delight from my blossom and how I always shine in the sun and drink of the water. But even if that were not the case, I would continue to shine because have I not brought delight to you, dear boy?
"Yes you have, and I very much appreciate it.
Your optimism gets me ready for the day,
And seeing you on my way home reminds of the good things that happened."
Boy, may I ask of you a favor?
"Yes you may, flower"
My days are but numbered for I have been here a while.
When I am gone
Enjoy the sun, drink of the water, and delight in the father's presence.
Through these things you will be to other people what I have been to you.
"I will do that for you"
